Your child is special to John Wesley United Methodist Church . We are devoted to providing a nursery that offers a warm, loving, Christian atmosphere. We strive to ensure our nursery meets the needs of children so that you will feel comfortable leaving your little one in our care.
The nursery is staffed by paid caregivers. They are certified in CPR and are required to attend at least one continuing education workshop approved by the Commission on Education annually. They have been trained in the areas of discipline, sanitation, diapering, and security procedures. Above all, they possess a love for the children.
Our Staff/Child ratio policy is as follows: Crib Room 1:3; Crawlers 1:4; Toddlers 1:6; 2-year Olds 1:6; 3-year-Elementary 1:8
Volunteers comprised of parents and trained teenagers assist the nursery staff as scheduled. Teenagers are required to complete the Red Cross Babysitting Course or comparable training approved by the Commission on Education prior to assisting in the nursery area. Volunteers are used as support staff to the paid caregivers and are never left alone in a classroom, except in case of an emergency. The volunteer program is open to all parents and we especially encourage parents of nursery-age children to participate.
The nursery area is equipped with safe and sanitary toys, cribs, changing pads, and high chairs. Snacks may be served.
John Wesley United Methodist Church wishes to provide your child with the highest quality, safest, and most loving care possible. To accomplish this, we need your support and cooperation with the following guidelines.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to call the Church Office at 281-444-2112 or Patricia Johnson at 281-397-8269.
Bring Diaper Bag with the following items (labeled):
- Prepared formula, juice, water or milk in labeled plastic bottles or cups (no glass containers please)
- 3 or 4 diapers (disposable)
- Wipes
- Change of clothes
- Comfort items (pacifier, blanket, etc.)
Please do not bring toys from home. Sharing can be traumatic for little ones when it involves a special toy!
Please leave medications at home-or keep them in Mom's purse. No medications should be in diaper bags.
Remember: Label Everything!
Nursery Procedures :
Please label all items . This ensures that your child's belongings can be easily identified and your child will readily receive what she/he needs.
Sign in outside the nursery door. It is important the staff know where to find a parent. Special needs should be noted. Inform the staff if your child should not be given a snack.
A staff member will greet parents and children at the classroom door. Where half doors are in place, parents should not open the doors to the classroom.
For our children's security, every child will be given an identification tag to be attached to his/her diaper bag. The parent will be given a matching card that must be presented when picking up the child. Children must be picked up by a parent. If a tag or card is lost, a replacement fee of $5 will be assessed.
Each child should be in clean condition at the time of his or her arrival in the nursery. (This includes wearing a fresh diaper, if the child is still in diapers.) The staff need to be free to greet newcomers, comfort little ones who are distressed, handle security, etc. during these high traffic times.
Please complete a personal profile sheet for your child. It will be kept on file in the nursery area.
Please do not bring children whom you suspect are not feeling well. You will appreciate the same courtesy being extended to you.
As a safety measure, it is imperative that parents not leave the church grounds while your child is in the nursery during our morning worship services or Sunday School.
The nursery is open not only on Sundays but throughout the week for numerous church activities. Nursery/childcare (infants through elementary-aged children) is provided for choir and handbell rehearsals, Bible studies, and some special events and meetings. Check with the Nursery Coordinator, Patricia Johnson, at 281-397-8269 to make childcare reservations or if you have a question about the availability of nursery for specific for specific events.
