Through study opportunities, we are nurtured as we grow spiritually. In these groups, we question and struggle with relevant life issues and together grow in faith and maturity as we become equipped to disciple to the world beyond the walls of the church.

Spring session 3 studies will be a mix of Zoom and In-Person meetings. Click on the links after each study description to register. Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email that includes Zoom links if applicable. For more information, contact Grow Coordinator, Lisa McCarthy.

Spring 2021 Session 3

Wednesdays, April 7 - April 28

The Soul of Music

Zoom study led by Dr. Marty Dunbar - (This 5-week study concludes on May 5.) Music is the Scripture of Culture. The Christian, the follower of Jesus Christ, believes truth is found in God's word, the Bible. ALL TRUTH IS FROM GOD, but TRUTH CAN BE FOUND IN A SONG. There is Godly truth in many of the songs we listen to. Each song has a story, a background, and a reason for its existence. What truth can be found in the lyrics and soul of these songs? This study will reflect on the weekly message for the Soul of Music sermon series and equip participants with the Biblical understanding of the soul of 4 secular songs. The series, based on 1 Peter 4:7-11 will teach you how to be alert and of sound mind and most of all to love God and love your neighbor.

Amazing Grace A Vocabulary of Faith

Zoom study led by Rev. Cheryl Smith - This topical women's study uses as its foundation, Kathleen Norris' NY Times bestseller, Amazing Grace; A Vocabulary of Faith. Be prepared to arrive at class having read the short essay for the week (3-5 pages) and then explore the themes of faith with your classmates. Readings will invite you to think about old themes and assumptions in new ways, and the community and discussion of others will enrich your life in multiple ways. We will explore topics such as perfection, belief doubt and sacred ambiguity, idolatry, Mary, Mother of God, blood, exorcism, and much more. Please purchase the book HERE prior to the first class.

I Said This, You Heard That.

Zoom Study Led by Priscilla Novak and Janet Jackson  - If you have ever said the wrong thing (or said the right thing the wrong way) you know how quickly your mouth can make a big mess! It doesn't have to be that way! This 4-session video study explores how your wiring affects what you say, how you listen, and how others hear you. Improve your communication skills with a simple framework, and learn how Apostle Paul's thousands-year-old advice may have held the secret all along. Purchase your workbook HERE prior to the first class.

Connect With the Bible

Zoom study led by Chris McCarthy  - Come and have fun learning about God's holy and inspired word. When was it written? How many books are in each testament? What is a testament? Does context matter? These are just a few of the topics we will cover in the study about the most important book in our lives.
