As we consider God’s blessings, we are in awe of His immense goodness toward us. God endows each of us with personal gifts, talents, and material possessions. Stewardship is acknowledging that God is the source of each gift received and each possession accumulated.
Christian Stewardship reminds us these gifts are not our own. We have oversight of them, but not ownership. Stewardship means to give a portion back to God as a direct way of expressing our thanksgiving to Him for these gifts. This year each one of you has done a tremendous job ensuring the mission of John Wesley UMC was successful. From the pastors and staff, we want to say thank you.
Our Church meets the financial needs of its annual Ministries and Operating Budget primarily through your tithes. You (the Church) gave $2,600,000 toward our mission. We received another $500,000 through restricted gifts, facilities use fees, and other sources. Therefore, you gave the Church a total of $3,100,000 in 2019. Great job!
Your staff did an amazing job also ensuring their expenses stayed in line with their budgets. Our expenses for 2019 totaled $3,100,000, allowing us to break-even for the year!
Due to the conflict and uncertainty in the General Church, your leadership made the decision to withhold half of our 2019 Annual Conference apportionments. By withholding these apportionments of $109,000, we were able to fulfill all obligations to our John Wesley partners here in Northwest Houston and around the world. They are all grateful for your heart of giving.
As we look toward 2020, our goal of receiving $2,100,000 in Partnership Pledges has reached a total of $2,020,000. This year our church will face new challenges and traverse new opportunities with your continued support. Thank you, once again, for supporting the mission of Jesus Christ right here at John Wesley UMC.
